A Perugia, Borgo Sant’Antonio, una preziosa statua lignea di fine Trecento o inizio  Quattrocento recentemente restaurata,  mostra il Santo eremita fondatore del monachesimo cristiano in atto di benedire. Sorprendente la somiglianza del suo bastone – a forma di “tau”, l’ultima lettera dell’alfabeto ebraico con cui San Francesco siglava le sue lettere - con il bastone che anni fa fece per Marcello Ezechiele Ciai un romeno ospitato presso la sua comunità di Assisi, “Famiglie di Betlemme” .
La coincidenza venne fatta notare con stupore agli astanti, dagli stessi custodi curatori dell'antica chiesa e oratorio quando Marcello andò a vedervi l'opera. Un buon motivo per raccontare qualche altro prodigio vissuto da lui  e dalla sua comunità in connessione con Sant’Antonio Abate. Grazie all’intercessione di questo Santo un incendio sviluppatosi improvvisamente in un campo della Comunità, a Rocca Sant'Angelo, si estinse insperatamente.
Di recente proprio nello stesso luogo Angela coglieva da un piccolo albero alcune albicocche per Marcello, sapendole salutari per la sua vista e salute precaria. La stupefacente foto che abbiamo deciso di pubblicare, la ritrae ignara che un angioletto le sta volteggiando intorno...

Recently, in the very same place Angela was picking from a small tree some apricots for Marcello, knowing that they were healthy for his eyes and poor health. The amazing photo that we decided to publish, shows her unaware that a little angel was twirling around...

Nuovo, accorato appello del Papa per la pace: “ Vi prego, fermatevi! Ve lo dico con tutto il cuore…”. Un Papa visibilmente addolorato per i conflitti in corso.  Ma come fermare un conflitto come quello Israelo-Palestinese, che torna ricorrentemente ad accendersi tra due popoli divisi da un’atavica inimicizia? C’è una sola realistica speranza: che si convertano entrambi a Cristo! Perché  è solo in Cristo, dice la Bibbia, che è abbattuto il muro di separazione  che nei secoli ha diviso il popolo ebraico dagli altri popoli, e  oggi più che mai dai Palestinesi. E’ nella croce di Cristo, e solo in essa, che gli uomini possono riconciliarsi con Dio e tra loro.
Ma, ha detto Gesù, “quando il Figlio dell'uomo tornerà sulla terra, troverà la fede?” Nella Parola di Dio sta scritto che negli ultimi tempi si parlerà di pace ma ci saranno guerre…

Nonostante lo storico incontro tra Shimon Peres e Abu Mazen al Vaticano per cercare la pace, si è riacceso tra Israele e lo stato Palestinese un conflitto con ripercussioni a livello mondiale. Ma da Assisi, universalmente riconosciuta come "città della pace", già da tempo lo spirito profetico ammoniva: "Si parla di pace, si cerca la pace, ma gli uomini non sanno neppure cosa sia pace. La pace solo io posso darla...." (Marcello Ezechiele Ciai "Il Mantello", 1981). E ancora, in una seconda profezia dello stesso profeta di Assisi rivolta a Roma ("Alla Città Gaudente", 1995): "...guerrieri crudeli e vittoriosi, scalpitano contro e verso di voi. Un bastione hanno eretto e lì si prepara la guerra santa. A te casa d'Israele e a te casa di Pietro mi rivolgo. Perché dite: La parola dei profeti è come il vento passato? Perché dite: Pace, libertà, benessere, quando queste cose non ci sono e non potranno essere? Guerra schiavitù e fame, io manderò allora sulle vostre nazioni. Oracolo del Signore". Cosa fare dinanzi a questo terribile scenario di guerra in cui rivedremo Gerusalemme di nuovo "circondata da eserciti" come già una volta profetizzò Gesù, che pianse su di essa? Preghiamo! Preghiamo "attendendo e affrettando la venuta del giorno di Dio" (Seconda lettera di S. Pietro - 3,12). Si avvicina il ritorno di Gesù, e quanto sta avvenendo ad Israele ne è uno dei segni più eclatanti di cui Gesù ha parlato nel suo discorso profetico sulla fine dei tempi. Sarà Lui e solo Lui che porterà la vera e definitiva pace sulla terra, liberandola da "tutti gli scandali e tutti gli operatori di iniquità" (S. Matteo - 13,41). E preghiamo in particolare per la conversione di Israele che riconosca in Gesù il suo Messia e Salvatore. Perché come sta scritto: "tutto Israele sarà salvato: ...e allora verrà la fine"!

What to do in front of this terrible war scenario in which we will see Jerusalem again "surrounded by armies" as already once prophesied by Jesus, who wept over it? Let's pray! Let's pray "waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God" (Second letter of St. Peter - 3,12). The return of Jesus is approaching, and what is happening to Israel is one of the most striking signs of which Jesus spoke in his prophetic sermon about the end times. He, and He alone, will bring the true and final peace on earth, freeing it from "all the scandals and all the evildoers" (St. Matthew - 13,41). And let's pray especially for the conversion of Israel, so that it may recognize in Jesus its Messiah and Saviour. Because, as it is written, "all Israel will be saved ... and then the end will come"!
